Trail Number 3
Refusal
Bask’s eyes narrow. “Then I must ask you to give me your staff. It has the power I need to direct me to the broken Crystal.”
“No way!” Snatching up the staff that had been standing upright near the table, you race for the door and frantically try to open it as Bask reaches to stop you. “Open up, open up,” you yell and somehow you know the staff has heard you. The door flies open and you are sprinting for your life back toward the courtyard.
Rounding the corner of the alley’s entrance, you see a lighted tavern; the sounds of revelry and music issue from the open door. Noticing that it has become dark outside, you realize that you must have spent the whole day with Bask and haven’t eaten since breakfast. The sight of the tavern starts your stomach grumbling and you move in that direction thinking that you can lose yourself in the crowd and maybe get a bite to eat.
The sign above the entrance reads Three Boars Tavern. Now that sounds vaguely familiar. You think back to when the wizard gave you instructions about meeting three other travelers. This might be the place. As you hear footsteps coming up the alley, you realize you must decide what to do, and fast. There are plenty of other streets to choose for your escape, wider and more inviting than the one you just came from. For a moment you hesitate between getting lost in a crowd at the tavern or getting lost in the Keep itself.
“Oh well, here goes nothing,” you say softly to yourself.
Travel Trail Number 7 if you slip into Three Boars Tavern.
Travel Trail Number 8 if you escape down another street.
